Q. Discuss the formation and aims of the Ghadar Party ?

Ans.

In 1914 A.D. The Indian emigrants organised a party known as the Hindustan Ghadar party in the U.S.A. Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna was elected the president and Hardayal as its Chief Secretary. The other prominent members of this party were Kanshi Ram, Karim Bakhash, Ajit Singh, Munshi Ram and Ram Chandra. The party also started a news paper called "Ghadar" which carried Anti-British propaganda among the Indians. Lala Hardyal was appointed as its editor. Soon a large number of branches of Ghadar party were opened in Canada, China, Japan and European Countries. The Ghadarites wanted to start an armed rebellion in India against the British as in 1857 A.D. They felt that as the British were engaged in the World War, it would be easy to inspire the soldiers and common people to join them in revolt. But their plot to organise rising in the army failed. The main aim of Ghadar party was to work for the liberation of their motherland, This aim could only be achieved by an armed national revolution in India. So after the war, Ghadarites started sending their followers to India. These persons started a campaign of loot and murder to equip themselves with necessary funds to fight the alien rule. But this movement failed due to the inefficiency of the leaders and remarkable efficiency of the British intelligence. Lack of arms and funds also contributed to the failure of the Ghadar movement.
