Q. Why Oudh rose in revolt in 1857 ?

Ans.

The British had annexed Oudh on flimsy grounds. The Nawab had always remained loyal to the British but Lord Dalhousie accused'him of maladministration and annexed Oudh. But the end of Nawab's rule did not give any relief to the people. The disbanded soldiers of Oudh became unemployed. The disbanded soldiers, the Nawab, his Queen Begum Hazrat Mahal, the ministers, the Taluqadars and the people of Oudh became the enemies of the British. They took part in the rising of 1857.
