In October 1924, Hindustan Republic Association was established under the inspiration of Chander Shekhar Azad which aimed to achieve independence through an armed struggle. The members of this Association to carry on the revolutionary activities collected money even looting the government money. For instance, on 9th August 1925 a train carrying government treasury was derailed near Kakori railway station by some revolutionaries under N the leadership of Ram Prasad Bismil. They looted the Govt. money it was carrying. As a result, many revolutionaries were arrested and tried in the court. Some of them were given life imprisonment and some leaders like Ram Prasad, Ashfaqullah Khan, Rajendra Nath Lahori and Roshan Laf were sentenced to death.
