The land revenue policy of the Company was to squeeze as much revenue as possible from the peasants. The Permanent Settlement of Land Revenue in Bengal made the condition of the peasants more miserable. The cultivators got no help neither from the Company nor from the Zamindars in times of famines, droughts or floods. This created a spirit of hatred among the peasants against the foreign rule.
