Mahatma Gandhi started the Non-co-operation movement to fight against the British rulers. According to him this movement was to be completely Non-violent as violence had no place in the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. This movement attracted people from all walks of life. The Swadeshi cloth, the Charkha and Khaddi became popular but an unfortunate incident forced Mahatma Gandhi to suspend the Movement. At Chauri Choura (in U.P.), a police station was attacked by a violent and angry mob. Twenty two policemen lost their iives. Mahatma Gandhi was very sad and disappointed. He took a serious view of the incident and suddenly suspended the movement.
