 Raja Ram Mohan Roy's greatest achievement was that he started a campaign against the practice of Sati. Impressed by his efforts William Bentinck declared this practice illegal. Ram Mohan Rai also protested against polygamy. He advocated the right of women to inherit property and widow remarriage. He also opposed female infanticide and child marriage.
