In 1928, Lala Lajpat Rai led a demonstration against the Simon commission. He died of injuries which he received by the Lathi blows of the police. This incident was a challenge to Bhagat Singh and his friends Chander Shekhar Azad and Raj Guru. They shot-down John Saunders, a senior police officer. In 1929, Bhagat Singh and B.K. Dutt threw a bomb in the central legislature assembly and voluntarily offered themselves for-arrest. Bhagat Singh, SukhDev and Raj Guru were hanged to death on 23rd March 1931. Chander Shekhar Azad became a martyr in Feb. 1931 in a park at Allahabad. In 1933, many other revolutionaries were hanged.
